Energy Assistance Print E-mail
The Salvation Army operates three programs to assist families and individuals who are in crisis and require assistance with delinquent utility bills.
  • Relief for Energy Assistance through Community Help (REACH) is a program administered by The Salvation Army on behalf of Pacific Gas and Electric. The program pays a maximum of $300 on 15 day or 48 hour final notices. Ninety per cent of funding must be used for PG&E services and 10% can be used to pay other utility vendors such as Modesto Irrigation District (MID), This program is funded by PG&E.
  • Modesto Irrigation District Payment Assistance Program (MID MPA) pays delinquent MID electric bills up to a maximum of $275. This program is funded by MID customers who contribute to The Salvation Army in April and October each year.
  • Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) is a federally funded program that provides a 30 day payment on delinquent PG&E, MID, Turlock Irrigation District (TID) and City of Modesto water/sewage bills.

kids day fundraiser

Kids' Day is a collaborative effort between The Modesto Bee and The Salvation Army to benefit children's programs at the Red Shield Center in South Modesto. Since its inception, Kids' Day has raised more than $628,407 to benefit the children who use the center in one of Modesto's poorest areas.

This year Kids' Day will be held on Tuesday May 15, 2012. We want to exceed last years' goal and offer more help with the positive programs that are reaching youth in our community. With your help, we can do it!

Here's how you can be part of this great community event:

  • Volunteer to sell papers on May 15th
  • Purchase Kids' Day papers to resell or donate to local schools
  • Remind your friends, employees and neighbors to have a $1.00 ready on May 15
  • Donate online
All sales last from 7:00am until 1:00pm. Read more here!
